Happy Birthday!!!

Yikes, i just turned 24. The realization of that has officially hit in. Actually, i'm taking it pretty well, cos i don't exactly feel my age. I suppose we age in thoughts, and responsiblities. But inside, we remain the same- i'm still the child i was years ago. I still cherish the same things, family, friends, passion in living life. A friend mentioned that december babies are romantics at heart. I cannot agree more on that. So, happy birthday to all december lovefools!

Me and dear have the exact birthdate! This year, we celebrated at the JEWELBOX atop Mt Faber. Dinner was great, and the view was fantastic. To top it off, there was snow! (achm, artificial foam no less, but hey, wat to expect... close enough la) Than we took the cable car, which chris has not been on for at least a decade :p Its quite creepy riding in it at night le, but that was alright. Thanks for the lovely night sweetie!

Put everything in the Lord's hand, and eventually you will see the Lord's hand in everything.

MEN

Alrighty, i was told by my near-perfect boyfriend to post more of my thoughts and feelings here. After excluding out all thoughts related to science (and more science), (still science...), who am i kidding! i'm not THAT dorky! Anyways, i came across an interesting article, and i'd like to dedicate the following post, to my dearest darling, Chris. And, can i say, that i do believe you fall under the "CONFIDENT" category of Singaporean men. But they forgot "PRAGMATIC" and "CYNICAL"...

Smarter, richer – but not taller, please
TODAY, WEDNESDAY, DEC 06, 2006

WOMEN can be more educated
and wealthier than their partners,
but preferably not taller.
This was one of the findings
in a survey of about 800 men between
25 and 59 years old, by
Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of
Business and Accountancy.
It found that 34 per cent of
the men had no reservations
about marrying a woman who
was better educated, earned
more, or came from a wealthier
family.
But if the woman was taller
than them, this percentage
dropped to 22 per cent.
And when it comes to the
trickiest dating question of all —
who makes the first move — six
in 10 men said it’s up to them, as
is footing the bill.
The survey also offered other
insights into the male psyche, including
some double standards.
For instance, half the men would
not marry a woman who smoked,
yet 28 per cent of the men surveyed
were regular smokers.
Twelve per cent of men found
it “forgivable” if a husband has an
affair, compared to only 8 per
cent who were willing to forgive
a wife who strays.
Twenty-one per cent said they
would not marry someone who is
not a virgin, but 31 per cent said
they were “okay” with pre-marital
sex.
Another interesting finding:
19 per cent would pay for sex,
and another 31 per cent were
agreeable to using sex toys to
enhance their sexual relationships.
The survey classified men
by their values and attitudes,
grouping men into four types —
Liberals, Chauvinists, the Confident,
and the Anxious (see box).
Said lead researcher Henry
Koh: “Most studies in the past
looked at the population as a
whole. This time we are going
for a holistic view of men’s values,
lifestyle and activities.”
The survey is the seventh
such annual survey on various
consumer groups by the polytechnic.

Oh! and i do think you are taller than me by a tad...
Well.. that should work out fine than..

Understanding your personality can help you find out what makes you tick. Itaccomplishes 3 things:
1. Recognizing the implications of our identity in Christ and His life in us in the context of personality,
2. Recognizing that personality analysis is not putting someone in a box, but rather helping them to fully mature and grow in their personality identity, and
3. Distinguishing personality from flesh (personality is God designed and flesh is an orchestration of Satan and personal self-effort).

I guess there's alot of flesh that God wants to bring my attention to. I just thank Him that He cares enough for me to discipline me.

Colourgenics: my profile

Hmmmm.... O well, maybe.

Colourgenics: my profile

You have a vivid imagination and this is good. Great inventors, explorers all had inventive, imaginative minds. Your friends and acquaintances may consider you over-imaginative and given to fantasy or day-dreaming. So what ? this is a part of your character and charm. You are lazy - you dream of a peaceful, calm, uncluttered and uncomplicated life. Your ideal would be to share a permanent base with some person or persons who would be able to demonstrate on-going love, peace and security.Nothing seems to be going right for you and you are thwarted every way you turn. You are not at all happy with the situation but it would appear that there is very little that you can do about it at this time. Sit back and let the situation take its course, because at this time you feel that there is nothing you can do to change whatever needs to be changed. You are being unduly influenced by the situation that is all around you. You do not like the feeling of loneliness and whatever it is that seems to separate you from others. You know that life can be wonderful and you are anxious to experience life in all its aspects, to live it to the full. You therefore resent any restriction or limitations that are being imposed on you and you insist on going it alone. You are anxious about all the limitations to which you are subjected to at this time. You feel that you are not valued for what or who you are. You need OUT. So why procrastinate any longer - MOVE!

what's in a word?

What's in a word but the word itself?
Now let me detach myself from all profoundness and seek to examine my own thoughts. Its been an extremely busy period. I found myself trudging though the endless work load, doubting myself and fearing if I will make it through. Finding myself inadequate and inefficient. And the expectations to meet up to.. Just gotta try to push through, in this aspect the word is persevere. Tired of fearing and constant procrastination, even more from the dip in passion. I used have that passion to dare to succeed in research, yet now, i find myself just hoping to scrape through. So what's the word? Revive. Renew. Rejuvenate.

"Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom." Psalm 90:12
Work has absolutely been piling in, there's so much to do, so much to learn. I really need to get it going. God, teach me to be diligent in work, for it is your hand that brought me here. Friends and co-workers at school have been extremely encouraging and fun to hang around with, i thank God for the chance to be surrounded by such intellectuals who care and are so real.
Walking with people has also proven to be more and more difficult. I've grown to love their souls more than their temporary happiness. The deeper you enter into their lives, the more you care for them, the greater the responsibility you carry for them, as a friend, confider and sister in christ. Sometimes, I do feel discouraged and at times taken for granted. I want to push through, i truely want to give a 100% to my friends, but now i hope to learn, not to desire appreciation, but let them be more of tributes to God, more than wanting it for people. The one thing i want for them, is to find the true joy of living a life in God. People to care for and encourage, God only by your love can i accomplish it. Because my own love will run out, i will get tired.
Something to be thankful for, once again, the younger ones in my cell. They are truely wonderful additions to my life, to see their innocent desires and passion for God. To see how much they value and treasure our friendships and time spent together. To see the little actions they take in expressing their commitment to God and to the cell. Lord, watch over these young ones, let them grow in you, and use me to help them reach the maximum potential they can be in their lives, in their walk with you, in their studies and in their families. :)

14th April 06 Good Friday

Good Friday, the day the Lord died on the cross bearing our sins for us. This year, as good friday drew near, i was merely looking forward to it as it was a holiday. An excuse off the daily routine of work. A day where we had special church performances and an opportunity to share God with non-believing friends. Beyond that, i hadn't given this day any further thought. As it turns out, God works in ways we don't often expect. I had invited an old friend to the morning service and persuaded him to come even though it was sooooo early in the morning of a public holiday! An altar call for healing was given, specifically for injury on the right knee! Goodness, i was quite shocked to hear that, having badly injured the exact knee a couple of weeks ago and it hadn't gotten better. There, my cell leader and members were giving me the eye to obey the call (heh, thx guys). As i was at the altar and got prayed for, the word was that God would give me a strength in my heart and wisdom, understanding and intelligence this year. I had to learn to stay in His presence. Truely, I think the call for healing was more like a gentle prodding from God for me to recieve a greater blessing from Him. I really needed that. More than all this, it was a reminder for me: even when I didn't care as much for Him, He still cared for me. Thank you Jesus, for reminding me of your love on Easter.
On a lighter note, we celebrated Leonard's 28th birthday on the same day! Happy bday Bro(we'll try to go easy on the ah peh jokes this yr, lol). Everyone had a good time, looking at the pics we took, I truely thank God for the cell group. Finally we've been able to get full attendance!! (well, almost) Looking at how far the group has grown, the new and the old, God is once more reminding, that we continue to do His good work, and He will continue to pour out
unto us.

JieHui, me and david chilling at Indochine.
Doesn't David look like a new man now that he's happily attached??

Chasing Lab tech, trip, fall, slid along floor, bang, bruised knee. Possibly the 2nd stupidest thing i can do this year...

Right here's my first post. what better way to start off by describing the stupidest thing i did in 2006 (and the year's not even half over..). Brace yourself for:
The stupidest thing i did in 2006!
Scientific experiments have always been flukes but never in history could there been one like this. I had preordered my chemical: Acetic Acid and it arrived in a big tin can. I never gave it a single thought until me and Ricky actually started the experiment one day.
We prepared the various chemicals and finally opened the can of Acetic acid, only to find granules and powder like substances.
After contemplating it for an entire minute...
Ricky: How come the acid is in powder form?
Me: i don't know... Acid can be in powder form meh?
Ricky and Me: hmm...
Ricky looks at the chemical information and makes a big discovery.
Ricky: See, it says "glacial". Its like ice mah, ice is liquid solid. So Glacial Acid is in powder form! Acid need water, so lets mix it with water!
I was so convinced by him that i readily agreed (forgetting Chem101: NEVER mix acid with water! Value your life!)
So we did our recalculations, and poured water into the beaker of acid powder. With abated breathes, Ricky stirred the concoction...
The solid powder floated... Silence..
Me: Urm.. Ricky ah, do u think maybe... there's something else inside the can ah?
We took a stick and poked around the powder in the can. Something hard..
Pouring some of the powder out, we found- the actual bottle of Acetic Acid. (The "powder" was in fact merely sand, to keep the bottle intact during shipping)
On that day, 2 PhD students tried to mix sand with water, thinking they were making acid. Our fellow researchers and Lab technicians did get a good laugh out of this.
My future does look quite bleak now..

The famous concoction...
